Monthly tempratures and Yearly Sunshine - Academic Task 1

 


The graph and table below show the average monthly temperatures and the average number of hours of sunshine per year in three major cities. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.



The line graph compares the average monthly temperatures in London, New York, and Sydney, while the table shows the total annual hours of sunshine in these three cities.

Overall, New York experiences the most extreme temperature variations, while Sydney has the most stable climate throughout the year. London remains relatively moderate. In terms of sunshine, New York receives the highest annual total, followed closely by Sydney, with London getting significantly less sunshine.

New York’s temperatures fluctuate dramatically, ranging from around 5°C in January to a peak of approximately 30°C in July, before dropping again towards the end of the year. London follows a similar pattern but is less extreme, with temperatures rising from about 8°C in January to just above 20°C in July. In contrast, Sydney's temperatures are highest during the start and end of the year—around 25°C in January and December—reaching their lowest point in July at about 15°C, indicating a Southern Hemisphere climate.

In terms of sunshine, New York tops the list with 2,535 hours per year, followed by Sydney with 2,473 hours. London receives the least sunshine, with only 1,180 hours annually, aligning with its cooler and often cloudier climate.
