Academic Task 1 Bricks Manufacturing Process

Image
The diagram illustrates the process that is used to manufacture bricks for the building industry. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.  The diagram shows how bricks are made for the building industry.  Overall, brick manufacturing consists of seven consecutive steps. First the raw material, clay, which lies just below the surface of the soil in certain clay-rich areas, has to be dug up by a digger. Then the lumps of clay are placed on a metal grid in order to break up the big chunks of clay into much smaller ones, which fall through the metal grid onto a roller, whose motion further segregates the bits of clay. Sand and water are added to make a homogeneous mixture, which is then either formed in moulds or cut into brick-shaped pieces by means of a wire cutter. These fresh bricks are then kept in a drying oven for at least 24 and a maximum of 48 hours, several dozens if not hundred...

Parenting (Two-Part Questions)

Image
Some parents buy their children whatever they ask for, and allow their children to do whatever they want. Is this a good way to raise children? What consequences could this style of parenting have for children as they get older? It is observed that a few families give their children a free hand by providing them whatever they demand and letting them do whatever they wish. This might not be considered a suitable upbringing style as when these children grow up, they are a misfit in the society.  Parenting is a challenging task and suitable techniques are required to do so, as the consequences can affect future generations. Some parents are found to be strict towards their children and some do not seem to care. The key to raising children well is in having a balanced approach. It is a parent’s responsibility to teach their off-springs about what is right and what is wrong. Also, when it comes to fulfilling a child’s wishes, parents must know when to refuse and when to agree. Th...

Working Hard (Two-Part Question)

Image
In education and employment, some people work harder than others. Why do some people work harder? Is it always a good thing to work hard? It is often found that some people tend to work harder as compared to others in order to succeed in their academic and professional goals. Since every person is unique, and the environment they are in also vary, working hard sometimes becomes an only option. Although, at times, working smart is what is required instead of working hard.  Each of us are different from one another in terms of personal traits and are facing unique types of challenges. This is to say that, when it comes to task achievement either as a student or an employee, some people lack in intelligence, a few might not be well experienced, and others might not have prior knowledge in field. Hence, in order to accomplish their goals, these individuals have to deal with their shortcomings by working harder as compared to others. For example management trainees are observed t...

Money vs Happiness (Two-Part Questions)

Image
Some people say the main way to be able to be happy in life is to have a lot of money.  How might having a lot of money make people happy?  What other things in life can make people happy? It is believed that the key to happiness lies in money. Wealth can bring joy in several ways ranging from having basic amenities to pursual of dreams, but there exist other immaterial aspects like health and family which are often linked with happiness.  How an individual defines happiness is a key factor in this case. To elaborate, for people living in under developed countries, having access to basic amenities such as clean drinking water, un-interrupted electricity and having a decent place to live might make them happy and they are expected to spend money to get access to these facilities. On the other hand, for some, monetary joy could be to follow their dreams to either travel the world or have a business of their own. For example, a childhood friend of mine inherited a siz...

Foreign Films (Two-Part Question)

Image
Many people prefer to watch foreign films rather than locally produced films. Why could this be? Should governments give more financial support to local film industries? It is true that foreign films are more popular in many countries than domestically produced films. There could be several reasons why this is the case, and I believe that governments should promote local film-making by subsidising the industry. There are various reasons why many people find foreign films more enjoyable than the films produced in their own countries. Firstly, the established film industries in certain countries have huge budgets for action, special effects and to shoot scenes in spectacular locations. Hollywood blockbusters like ‘Avatar’ or the James Bond films are examples of such productions, and their global appeal is undeniable. Another reason why these big budget films are so successful is that they often star the most famous actors and actresses, and they are made by the most accomplished producer...

Art: 1.        For a long time art has been considered an essential part of all cultures in the world. However, nowadays people’s values have changed, and we tend to consider science, technology and business more important than arts. What do you think are the causes of this? What can be done to draw people’s attention to art? 2.        The government's investment in arts, music and theatre is a waste of money. Governments should invest these funds in public services instead. To what extent do you agree with this statement? 3.        Studying art in school improves students' performance in other subjects, because it is easier for multi-skilled students to learn new things. That's why art should be obligatory in schools. Do you agree or disagree? Education: 1.        Tuition for healthy children usually has top priority in most countries. However, teac...
